South East Louisiana

The first week in December is a wrap! The weather
has still been tough and Venice has been muddy , so we moved up the road to Empire to fish. The fishing has been good there in the shallow bays and creeks. I have been able to guide my clients to some nice upper slots and bull red fish. The fishing should get better as winter settles in.

Louisiana Red Fishing

Back again with a windy report! The wind has still been pumping. We seem to be having a weather year for sure in South east Louisiana . I moved from fishing Venice to Empire due to the water getting muddy from the wind and not wanting to fish the same old places . The  fly fishing in Empire has been good for all sizes of red fish . We just got our first blast of cold weather so things should change for the better.

The wind has been relentless to say the least in south east Louisiana . The whole coastline from Hopedale down to Venice has been hammered  with strong south east winds. The winds are making a lot of the areas we fish really muddy. With that being said we are still able to catch some great fish in the shallow grass areas and on wind blown flats that have clean water on them. I have dates open from Jan-April.

Last week was great Red Fishing on fly. I was able to guide my clients to some really nice fish . We had a big lady's  group with a lot  of new anglers to the sport. Its always good to see all ages and genders out on the waters of Venice .The fish have started trickling back from spawning into the marshes and coves.  The wind has come up a bit so now back to the grind.

The weather has finally calmed down for 7 days now. The fishing from Hopedale , Port Sulphur and Venice have been on fire . We have been catching Jack's and big red fish. Ive been on tailing reds and big floaters in current where there are passes dumping out. When you can get the sun and wind to line up guiding clients to big fish gets real easy. If you come to New Orleans get a guided  fishing  trip to the mashes of South East Louisiana!

Venice, Louisiana Fishing Charters - Latest Report

The fishing today in Venice was tough. The post frontal winds were cranking and that really made the water dirty. My clients that I'm guiding are new to the sport so we were using spin gear to today. We were able to catch several nice Bull Reds. Sometimes when the weather gets bad in South East Louisiana you have to change the way you play the game .

Venice Red Fishing

We had another great day in Louisiana . My clients traveled from Memphis Tennessee to fly fish . One of the anglers had never flyfished at all, so after some instructions we got him his first red fish on fly. There were singles pushing on the surface and some schools would pop up from time to time.  I was fishing in shallow open water bays. Fall fishing is cranking up and we are ready to put you on the water!

I just rolled back into Hopedale Louisiana from Florida. We are having one heck of a hurricane season. Today ,I fished Hopedale which is 30 min or so from New Orleans. The water was super high this morning but fell out good throughout the day. We had decent fishing but not on fire. We had several shots at Bull Reds but just missed them. We were able to to catch some slots on fly in shallow ponds . The sky was nice and blue with lots of sun. We shall see what tomorrow brings!

2024 Florida Panhandle Tarpon Season

10/3/2024

The Tarpon fishing out of Apalachicola ,Carrabelle, St George Island  and Cape Sand Blas was great this season. We had our trying weather pattern days but that's what you get when you fish in the salt water. We always try to site fish with Fly but I did have a few clients that choose spin gear for their day on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We used Hogy soft plastics while spin fishing for the big Tarpon . They go nuts when they see the pink with green eel pattern swimming by them . I had trouble keeping the fish hooked up so I started using circle hooks to stay connected to the fish longer. Guiding in the Florida Panhandle can be challenging due to the way we have to fish in basically more open waters but they do like to bite up here.

It was another great day in South east Louisiana . The fishing in Venice has been good. Today we had lots of wind and battled clouds but we were able to catch some good  Red fish on Fly. I had to get really shallow to be able to see and the water is cleaner as well. I think the fall is going to be really great!
